Bias

Bias refers to a prejudice or preconceived opinion that affects a police officer's ability to perform their duties in a fair and impartial manner. This type of police misconduct can occur when an officer shows favoritism or discrimination based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, or other personal characteristics. Bias in law enforcement can result in unequal treatment of individuals, violations of their civil rights, and a loss of trust in the police department and the criminal justice system. Law enforcement agencies must establish policies and procedures to address and prevent bias, and hold officers accountable for their actions. Bias in policing can also result in internal disciplinary action, as well as criminal charges and civil lawsuits.
