Christopher Allen Schuessler

Date of Offense

December 20, 2020

Statement

I submitted a FOIA request to the North Charleston Police Department about 3 months ago requesting records of any previous misconduct. I received a document back from the North Charleston Police Departments Office of Professional Standards (O.O.P.S). This document is numbered Complaint 20-EX014). In complaint number 20-EX014 Officer Christopher Schuessler is found sustained of "conduct unbecoming" and "Intimidation." He is found sustained for these violations for physically assaulting assaulting a man named Cameron J. Brittain by choking him nearly unconscious in the back of an Uber while he was off duty in front of multiple female witnesses. Officer Schuessler then attempted to interfere in the investigation by calling and texting the witnesses in an effort to gain access to the victim Mr. Britains personal contact information. Officer Schuessler was suspended for 80 hours without pay. He was never criminally charged the victim filed out a declination to prosecute because he was afraid of long drawn out court proceedings and the three females were not named in the report as they were "too scared" to be named in the report. Officer Schuessler has been involved in other previous policy violations in the past which include him wrecking a police vehicle and failing to give proper K-9 warnings.
