Statement

On or about May 15, 2022, attorney John Ange along with his wife Kerry Ange (also an attorney) approached and threatened a member of the media and a supporter of Temujin Kensu who was wrongfully convicted of a 1986 murder in St. Clair County where the Ange's reside. The man that was verbally threatened is Grant Smith and he is the owner of GBS Media and Grant Smith Insurance Company in Port Huron, MI. According to Grant, the Ange's approached him and said, "If you know what is good for you, you'll stop having your reporters cover the Kensu case." John Ange worked under Robert Cleland who is now a federal judge, but was the original prosecutor in the 1986 Kensu trial. In 2010, Chief Federal Judge Denise Paige Hood issued an opinion regarding Temujin Kensu's federal habeas which cited prosecutorial misconduct by Cleland. Now, 36 years later, Cleland's former intern John Ange along with his wife Kerry Ange are threatening anybody who offers support regarding Temujin Kensu's wrongful conviction. This abusive, harassing and threatening behavior is inappropriate especially as this is the exact same type of behavior that led to the wrongful conviction of Temujin Kensu to begin with. As an aside, this is particularly concerning because Kerry Ange works in Dana Nessel's very own office as an assistant attorney general.
