Statement

An officer uses a shield to push an elderly man until he falls to the ground.

The officer involved, Val Brown, was identified internally and placed on modified duty the day after this incident, according to a representative of the department. On March 4, 2021, a spokesperson said the investigation into the incident had been completed and the officer was returned to full-duty status. In response to a public records request, the department released a letter indicating that the officer had one allegation of unnecessary use of force sustained against him and received “coaching and counseling” as a result. Brown did not respond to ProPublica’s requests for comment in May 2021.
