Esmeralda Deputy Sheriff Julian Melendez is not a certified Nevada Peace Officer. Melendez does not meet Nevada POST Certification standards. Melendez is currently acting under the authority of a Peace Officer without the proper training or certification. Melendez was hired by disgraced former Sheriff Nick Dondero January 2023. Deputy Melendez is basically guilty of impersonating a peace officer and fraud. Anyone who was given a citation or arrested by Deputy Melendez should notify the Esmeralda District Attorney and file a complaint with Nevada POST. Melendez can easily be impeached as a witness in any court. This is a huge liability to Esmeralda County an the public.
