Supervisory Responsibilities

Failure at supervisory duties refers to instances where a police supervisor fails to properly monitor, train, or discipline their subordinates, resulting in misconduct or violations of the law or ethical standards. This type of police misconduct can occur when a supervisor is aware of, or should have been aware of, the improper actions of a subordinate, but fails to take appropriate action to address the issue. Supervisors have a responsibility to maintain the integrity of the police department and to ensure that all officers under their command are held accountable for their actions. Failure to do so can lead to a breakdown in trust and credibility, and can have serious consequences for both the community and the individuals involved.
