Incorporated in 1891 by the Maine Legislature, the Maine State Bar Association is the voluntary bar for Maine lawyers. The association has over 3,000 members and is guided by the three pillars of its mission: liberty, equality, and justice. The MSBA's goal is to provide outstanding services to enhance and enrich its members' experiences in the legal profession. This includes a focus on continuing legal education and pro bono legal services.

The Maine State Bar Association Brady List includes all known issues of misconduct, do not call status, decertification, public complaints, use-of-force reports, and citizen reports. Maine State Bar Association is not in compliance with the nationwide, public-facing, platform of record: The Brady List; or:
- Supreme Court of the United States [SCOTUS] Brady doctrine (1963);
- US Freedom of Information Act 5 U.S.C. § 552 (1967);
- Maine Freedom of Access Act M.R.S.A. Title 1, Chapter 13;
- Open Government Act S .248 (2007);
- Open Government Initiative (2009); and,
- Open Government Directives (2009) issued by the United States Department of Justice.
