According to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI), Wesley Hunter Jr. was transporting an adult female on or about July 20, 2023 to the Canadian County Jail in connection to an outstanding warrant. It was determined at some point during the transportation, Hunter stopped the vehicle in a remote area and sexually assaulted the female in his custody.
Officials say the Canadian County Sheriff, Chris West, requested assistance from OSBI on July 25, 2023 regarding the incident. OSBI has disclosed to media that evidence was obtained indicating the assault happened in Marshall County, near Highway 70 and Anitoch Road. Media also reported Hunter was arrested and booked into the Marshall County Jail on Second Degree Rape and is no longer employed by the Canadian County Sheriff.
Hunter is the second Canadian County Sheriff's Deputy to be arrested in connection to assaults during transport. David Wayne Loman was arrested on 5/16/22 in connection with sexual assault allegations from an inmate he transported on April 7, 2020.
