Former Oklahoma Police Stg. Clifford Holman was charged with Manslaughter in the first degree, in violation of 21 O.S. 711-723 in Oklahoma County District Court case CF-2021-808 for the shooting death of Bennie Edwards on December 11, 2020.  Holman is accused of firing three shots at Edwards, at least one of which struck the victim in the back as he fled.  Body Camera Footage was released to local media outlets, showing what appears to be officer(s) shooting at the back of Edwards as he attempted to flee.  Public outrage over the shooting resulted in local demonstrations and advocacy by the OKC Black Lives Matter group.

Local Oklahoma Fraternal Order of Police President John George reportedly told news media that Holman followed his training.

The other officer at the scene, Keith Duroy, was not charged.

Detective Bryn Carter, a 30 year veteran of the Oklahoma Police Department, investigated the shooting and stated in his sworn affidavit that Holman fired three shots “unnecessarily”.  Months later in May of 2021, Detective Carter would recant his sworn statement against Holman, prompting Oklahoma County District Attorney David Prater to file a "Notice of Potential Brady/Giglio Evidence" in CF-2020-1806.  It is unknown if such a filing has been made in any other cases at this time, despite the obligation to disclose retroactively and proactively to every defendant who's case involves Detective Bryn Carter.
