On September 18, 2025 I appeared in front of Judge Given on a small claims matter as the Defendant. I timely filed a cross complaint against the plaintiff . The Plaintiff filed the claim for past due rent on my storage units and my cross complaint was for False advertisment, and consumer protection violations, additionally, more than four (4) violations of the California Self -Service Storage Act, codified under California Business and Professions Code 21700.
During the testimony the Plaintiff admitted to violating the Self-Service storage act by over locking my storage units with the mandated notices, suspended my gate access code when unit was current, Judge Givens ignored the violations and at one point made the excuse for the violation by saying " so you locked the defendant out get his attention right" It became obvious to everyone in the Court Room that she going to rule in the plaintiffs favor. When I would try to dispute the claim, she would interupt me with questions like " So you pull up in front of and empty unit and put your stuff in it? or " Why would you rent a unit without getting a rental agreement, will waving papers in the air. When I attempted to submit documents showing my request for seperate agreements for each unit it was denied. When Judge Given made her ruling, she openly mocked me from one of the text messages between the plaintiff and myself again waving papers in the air "You have my word I will get these unit current," Judge Givens did not rule on evidence presented. On a side note in and unrelated case in 2003 Judge Givens was the Yuba County Public Defender, one of the attorneys out of her office was assigned to my case, during a conversation with the attorney, he made a statement that Debra Given didn't have very good things to say about me. I have never had any contact with Debra Givens at that time for her to make a statment like that.
