On or about October 27, 2024, Oklahoma City Police Sergeant, Joseph Gibson, used "unreasonable" force against a 71 year old man who was in poor health he stopped for an alleged traffic violation by slamming him face first into the pavement causing the man to suffer injuries including a C1 fracture, orbital fracture, and a brain bleed.
On or about December 5, 2024, Sgt. Gibson was criminally charged for his excessive force in Oklahoma County case CF-2024-5696 by District Attorney, Vicki Behenna.
On or about December 27, 2024, Attorney General, Gentner Drummond, announced that he was removing the case from DA Behenna and dismissing the charges against Gibson. In a statement to the press, Drummond placed blame for the incident on the victim, despite video evidence indicating that Sgt. Gibson's physical safety was at no time in jeopardy.
