On September 23, 2013 FOX25 News Reported:
A teenager is recovering in the hospital after being shot by a trooper after a road rage incident on I-35.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says Trooper Joseph Kimmons was the officer who fired the shot, injuring the teen on Sunday.
The incident began when a woman called in a road rage incident near I-35 and Tecumseh Rd. in Norman. OHP says Kimmons dispatched to the scene when the trooper feared for his life and pulled the trigger, injuring the 14-year-old.
The teens name has not been released but is expected to survive.
Trooper Kimmons, a 14-year veteran of the Highway Patrol, is currently on routine paid administrative leave, pending the outcome of the investigation.
The Amarillo Globe-News also reported on the incident.
On October 17, 2013 NEWS6 Reported on the reaction by the teen's mother when Cleveland County District Attorney, Greg Mashburn, declined to file criminal charges against Trooper Kimmons, claiming the teenager brought it on himself.
We will not stand by as our brothers and sisters are brutalized, criminalized, and silenced.
We reject a world where the powerful profit from our poverty and our lives are treated as expendable. We will not wait for justice to be handed down from above.
We will organize, resist, and take it for ourselves.
WE ARE NO LONGER ASKING...
