Deputy Ian Wilkerson was unable to properly contain his K9 Unit, "Bevo", while reportedly visiting an Allen, TX residential neighborhood, where the dog escaped, resulting in a child being hospitalized after sustaining multiple bite injuries.
A Collin County Judge declared the K9 to be a dangerous animal and banned the dog from Texas for the remainder of his life. Read more...
Statements made by Sheriff Kevin Clardy and investigative reporting by The McCurtain Gazette indicate that the Sheriff told the public that the dog is privately owned by Wilkerson, however, the local newspaper uncovered that the County had paid for vet visits and food for the maintenance and upkeep of the animal that would constitute a misappropriation of assets and noncompliance of state statutes, since the dog is not owned by the county.
