Off duty deputy was arrested for DUI

Summary of the Incident

An Orange County deputy was arrested the morning of 10/15/22 by St. Cloud police on DUI charges, according to the sheriff’s office.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office said John Guzman, 29, was arrested Saturday while he was off duty.

The sheriff’s office said he has been with them since September 2019 and works as part of their patrol division.

“He has been relieved of all law enforcement duties and has been reassigned to an administrative role. Once the criminal proceedings are complete, an OCSO administrative investigation will be conducted,” officials said.

According to the arrest report, a St. Cloud officer saw a stationary grey Honda in the entrance of a parking lot near 2125 Nolte Road in St. Cloud around 4:21 a.m. The door to the vehicle was open, and the driver, later identified as Guzman, was hanging out of the driver’s seat, the report shows.

Police said Guzman was asleep behind the wheel with the vehicle in drive, and his foot was still on the brake.

Records show that police asked Guzman to exit the vehicle, and when he did, they noticed that he had trouble with his balance. According to the report, his eyes were bloodshot, and officers could smell alcohol on his breath.

Officers also noted that Guzman had vomit on his shirt and pants, and he fumbled in his pockets when he tried to find his wallet.

Guzman declined a series of field sobriety exercises and was placed under arrest, officers said.
