Donald “Chris” Amason, former Cleveland County Sheriff, resigned from office effective April 27, 2026, after entering a no contest plea to one felony count of embezzlement arising from a Multi-County Grand Jury indictment. The Oklahoma Attorney General reported that Amason was charged with moving between $2,500 and $15,000 from his campaign account to himself and others on multiple occasions between May 2020 and July 2025, in violation of rules governing the use of campaign funds. Under the plea agreement, Amason agreed to resign immediately, pay $10,000 in restitution, accept a five-year deferred sentence, and surrender his CLEET card. The matter is potentially Brady/Giglio material because it involves alleged dishonesty, misuse of funds, criminal conduct by a law enforcement officer, and conduct bearing on credibility, impeachment, and fitness to serve as a government witness.
