On Friday October 22, 2021 while working at the Massachusetts State Police Air Wing in Lawrence, Massachusetts, Massachusetts State Police Trooper Russell Dana Phippen violated departmental rules and regulations when he created an email account in the name of his ex-mother-in-law and, from this email account that he created and under the guise of his ex-mother-in-law, sent an email assassinating the character of his ex-brother-in-law to a municipal government official in Massachusetts who was considering hiring his ex-brother-in-law at the time. An internal investigation was launched by the Massachusetts State Police and as a result of their findings, due to his on-duty behavior on October 22, 2021, Massachusetts State Police Trooper Russell Dana Phippen was suspended without pay for a period of 6 months effective on January 1, 2023
