Deputy Sheriff Kat Shampang was hired in February 2023 by the Esmeralda County Sheriff. Shampang was on administrative suspension from Nevada Highway Patrol for a DUI on duty when hired. Shampang was just arrested in July by the Nye County Sheriff Office for DUI while on duty driving the Esmeralda County patrol vehicle. Shampang was booked into the Nye County Jail. Shampang was not disciplined by the Esmeralda County Sheriffs Office in any way. Sergeant Saul Bermudez is Shampangs father and is also a chronic alcoholic as well. Both are still working in Esmeralda County.
