Statement
Dear Professional Standards Office,
I am writing to respectfully request a review of a matter that may fall under the Olympia Police Department’s professional standards policies. I want to be clear that I am not making a legal accusation or asserting misconduct as fact, but rather submitting information so the department may determine whether any review or follow-up is appropriate.
I recently became aware of text message communications between my partner/soon-to-be wife and a sworn officer of the Olympia Police Department by the name of Aaron Ficek. These communications included sexually explicit content and discussion of a potential sexual encounter. Throughout the time of these communications, the officer was fully aware that my partner was in a long-term committed relationship with me.
Additionally, within these messages, the officer initiated and suggested specific methods to my partner for how the potential encounter could occur without my knowledge. For example, the officer stated, “Easily. Leave your phone at your mom’s. Haha,” and “Forward your call and text to my phone.”
I am providing these statements verbatim and without characterization, based directly on the content of the messages themselves, so the department may determine whether this information is relevant under its professional standards, ethics, or conduct-unbecoming policies. I understand that consensual, off-duty personal conduct is not always subject to discipline. However, given the professional and ethical standards expected of sworn officers, I am submitting this information so the department may determine whether the conduct aligns with its policies regarding professionalism, ethics, or conduct unbecoming.
I have preserved copies of the communications and can provide them if requested. My intent in reaching out is not retaliation, but to allow the department to review the matter as it deems appropriate.
