Official Statement
In OPA case 2023OPA-0194, the Seattle Office of Police Accountability investigated a Seattle Police employee for social-media activity that included derogatory and prejudiced statements concerning race, gender, gender identity, and political ideology. The investigation concluded that the content violated departmental standards and undermined public trust.
OPA sustained three allegations: bias-based policing, unprofessional conduct, and violation of the social-media policy. The findings determined that the officer’s public communications were inconsistent with the obligations of impartial policing and the professional expectations of Seattle Police personnel.
The recommended discipline was termination. However, no discipline was ultimately imposed because the employee retired prior to the completion of the disciplinary process.
