While I was pinned in this position Officer Cruz drove my earring directly into my face with enough pressure to break the skin.I began to bleed. I was already unable to breathe freely.I was in pain, bleeding, and trapped beneath an officer's weight.a closed fist punch delivered to my face officer jonathan cruz did not issue a warning. He did not give a command. He did not attempt to de-escalate the situation. He balled his fist and struck me in the mouth while I was already on the ground, injured, and gasping for air.Only after the punch had already been thrown did Officer Cruz say the words ”Stop spitting."That order came after the assault not before it.It was not a warning that preceded force. It was a phrase used to reframe what had just happened and make an unprovoked punch appear to be a justified response.
