On September 11, 2025, it was reported that an Oklahoma County jury convicted Oklahoma City Police Department officer Kristopher Gellenbeck of a felony count of Child Abuse for assaulting his minor son during a November 26, 2023 custody exchange at the Target on the 8300 block of N. Rockwell in Oklahoma City.
Jurors recommended a four-year sentence in the Department of Corrections, with formal sentencing set for October 29, 2025. According to trial testimony, during the exchange Gellenbeck yelled at his ex-wife, then grabbed his son by the throat and choked him for several seconds; the child reported difficulty breathing and said he struck his father in the face to break free.
At the time of the incident and throughout the prosecution, Gellenbeck was on administrative leave. The District Attorney’s office noted a prior 2021 domestic incident in which Gellenbeck entered an Alford plea to an amended misdemeanor charge of Disturbing the Peace. These facts collectively depict a pattern of domestic violence and raise serious concerns about fitness to serve, credibility, judgment, and compliance with constitutional and departmental standards in any case where Gellenbeck’s actions, testimony, or reports could affect liberty interests.
We will not stand by as our brothers and sisters are brutalized, criminalized, and silenced.
We reject a world where the powerful profit from our poverty and our lives are treated as expendable. We will not wait for justice to be handed down from above.
We will organize, resist, and take it for ourselves.
WE ARE NO LONGER ASKING...
