This Incident Alleges:
Deprivation of Rights
By arresting Roberts for constitutional protected right to video record in public.
Denied medical treatment while in custody
Excessive Force
By slamming Roberts to the ground that caused a concussion.
Obstruction of Justice
By deleting Robert’s video footage.
Summary of Incident
On September 12, 2022, Joshua Roberts (Pepperoni Audits) was video recording Dove Technologies from a public easement.
He was approached by two employees, one of which demanded Roberts stop recoding him. When Roberts refused the employee assaulted Roberts.
Roberts brandished a taser to stop the assault.
The assaulting party yelled to the business to call your husband.
Three Florence County Sheriff deputies responded. Responding officers Ignored assault.
Several minutes later, Seargent Morrison arrives on scene and approaches Roberts. Within 30 seconds of his arrival, Morrison tells Roberts to put his hands behind his back and then slams him to the ground.
Roberts was charged with:
- Breach of Peace
- Resisting
- 3rd degree Assault and battery
The Use of Force causes concussion that required medical
3 other officers failed to intervene
Denied medical treatment while in custody
After Roberts was released, he was treated for concussion at ER.
Upon returning to home, Roberts discovered that his videos had been deleted
On September 12, 2022, Roberts made a written complaint to the Florence County Sheriff’s Office.
On September 13, 2022 Florence County Sheriff’s Office issued a press release indicating that an Internal Affairs Investigation had been opened “which included a review of all known video, including body worn camera video and interviews of the deputies on scene. The Internal Affairs Investigation determined numerous FCSO Policy violations during the incident. As a result of the investigation, Sgt. Morrison is no longer employed by the Florence County Sheriffs Office.
The matter has been referred to the 12th Circuit Solicitor's Office.”
All charges against Mr Roberts have been dropped.
