On or about May 20, 2026, at approximately 1:30 a.m., Mansfield Police Officer Joshua Adamescu conducted a traffic stop involving driver Dreama Henderson and passenger Calvin Caldwell, age 68, after allegedly observing the vehicle stopped too far into an intersection. According to a published Cleveland 19 Investigates report, Officer Adamescu requested Caldwell’s identification and Social Security number. Caldwell reportedly refused to provide his Social Security number but offered identification.
The encounter escalated after Officer Adamescu took Caldwell’s identification from his hand and Caldwell took it back. Body-camera and dash-camera footage reviewed by Cleveland 19 reportedly shows Officer Adamescu ordering Caldwell out of the vehicle, warning that he would be tased, grabbing and violently shaking Caldwell, attempting to pull him from the truck, punching him multiple times, climbing into the cab, continuing to strike him, and later drawing his Taser. Dash-camera footage reportedly appears to show Officer Adamescu shoving Caldwell’s head into the truck before taking him to the ground.
Officer Adamescu reportedly claimed in his police report that Caldwell balled up his fist, lunged toward him, and threw the first punch. Cleveland 19 reported that its review of the body-camera footage did not appear to show Caldwell raising a fist before Officer Adamescu moved toward him. Caldwell denied punching the officer and stated that he was attempting to block the officer’s strikes. The report further states that Caldwell was left handcuffed on the roadside, bleeding from his head, with visible bruising and blood on his face, and that he pleaded with officers to remove the handcuffs due to prior surgeries on both hips. An ambulance reportedly arrived approximately twelve minutes later. Caldwell was taken to the hospital and released.
This matter raises potential Brady/Giglio impeachment concerns, including alleged excessive force, possible inaccurate or misleading use-of-force reporting, and a material conflict between an officer’s stated justification for force and the available body-camera/dash-camera evidence. The allegation is particularly significant because Caldwell was reportedly accused of assaulting an officer, while the cited footage was reported as not appearing to support the officer’s claim that Caldwell initiated the physical confrontation. The matter was reported as under internal review, with charging decisions pending before a prosecutor. Henderson’s underlying traffic citation was reportedly dismissed.
