Brady Offense No. 1746385862 - 450437204

Trevor James Kirk

Date of Offense

June 24, 2023

Official Statement

On February 6, 2025, former Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputy Trevor James Kirk was convicted by a federal jury of one felony count of deprivation of rights under color of law, stemming from an incident on June 24, 2023, in Lancaster, California. Kirk and another deputy responded to a reported robbery at a WinCo Foods supermarket. While detaining a male suspect, Kirk confronted a woman, identified as J.H., who was recording the arrest on her cellphone. Without issuing any commands, Kirk attempted to seize her phone. When J.H. turned away, he forcibly grabbed her arm, placed his hand behind her neck, and threw her face-first to the ground. While restraining her, he threatened to punch her, pressed his knee into her neck, and pepper-sprayed her twice, despite her not posing a physical threat. J.H. sustained blunt-force head trauma and injuries to her head, arms, and wrist. Kirk also provided a misleading radio report, claiming he was in a "fight." He was relieved of duty without pay and faced a statutory maximum sentence of 10 years in federal prison, with sentencing initially scheduled for April 21, 2025.
