Lethal Force

Inappropriate lethal force refers to the use of deadly force by a police officer in a manner that is not justified by the circumstances or that exceeds the level of force necessary to resolve a situation. This type of police misconduct can occur when an officer uses lethal force when it is not necessary to protect themselves or others from imminent harm, or when the use of non-lethal force would have been sufficient to resolve the situation. The use of inappropriate lethal force by a police officer can result in serious injury or death, and can also have lasting consequences for the individual and their family, as well as for the community as a whole. Law enforcement agencies must establish clear policies and procedures for the use of force, and hold officers accountable for their actions. The use of inappropriate lethal force can also result in criminal charges against the officer, as well as civil lawsuits.
